1. Learnerships in Horticulture (General Education & Training Certificate in Horticulture Level 1)
More about Learnerships:
Learnerships is a planned, structured and managed programme aimed at creating work experience that is occupationally based and designed to assist the learner work experience for and average period of 12-18 months.  The learnership programme was developed as a strategy for training unemployed youth as set out in section 18(2) of the Skills Development Act No 97 of 1998 and existing employees as set out in section 18(1) of the same Act.

The advantages of the learnership programme is that once the learners have been proven competent in the learnership qualification will acquire a recognised certificate, improve and develop their skills thus looking forward to a career path in any sector of the Horticultural industry.

Who should attend?
People interested in Horticulture as a career and those currently employed in the Horticultural industry.

How does the learnership programme work?
The programme has been divided into 17 courses, namely:

8. Mulching and Enriching the Soil of Established Plantings 5
9. Propagating Ornamental Plants from Seed 5
10. Caring for Seedlings 4
11. Utilising Growth Media for Containers 3
12. Planting and Establishing Plants from Containers 5
13. Applying Health and Safety in Horticulture 3
14. Controlling Weeds Manually 4
15. Pruning and Shaping of Shrubs 4
16. Identifying and Reporting Common Pests and Diseases 4
17. Mowing Lawns 3

Programme duration:
This programme stretches over a period of 8-12 months (depending on learners' or employer's schedule).
